Barcelona, to the slopes: La Molina day trip

Yes, Barcelona is not the first place you think of flying to for a ski weekend, yet you’d be surprised just how easy it is to get yourself to the snow.

Option A: ANDORRA for a ski trip near Barcelona, is Andorra. (A tiny little Principality located on the France-Spain border. Article to come.

OPTION B: La Molina

La Molina is a 2 hour drive or 3 hour train ride from Barcelona City Centre.

For a mere 46€* you can buy a ‘SkiTren’ for La Molina, which includes: a return train ticket from Barcelona (city centre) to La Molina, a 1-day ski pass and a free transfer from the train station to the slopes. (The day pass alone is 45€). If you do decide to drive there and return to Barcelona on a Sunday night beware the traffic with quite possibly be intense.

The train takes roughly 3 hours from Plaza Catalunya. It runs every day from November to April (check official website for dates). Even though it means getting up at stupid o’clock, I would recommend getting the first train of the day (usually leaves between 6-7am) so you can be on the slopes by 10am. When you exit the station, head down the steps and a regular shuttle comes to take you to the slopes – you shouldn’t have to pay for it with your ‘SkiTren’ pass

See more info on the official website here.

You can also opt to go via Bus, by booking the SkiBus but at the moment it’s only available on Wednesdays and Fridays. It’s pricier than the train and costs 54€ – see more info on the official website.

Ski/snowboarding equipment can be rented from down by the train station (slightly cheaper) or up by the slopes. There are multiple shops to choose from all with similar prices. You can leave your belongings in small (3€) or big lockers (6€) by the slopes. They also may require a deposit (5€) and make sure to ask what time they close at (earlier that expected).

There are multiple little snack type restaurant/bars.
